Bangalore, India, Oct 27, 06: Strides Arcolab Limited [NSE: STAR, BSE: 532531] today announced its unaudited financial results for the third quarter ended 30th September 2006.

Key Revenue Highlights

  • EBITDA margins at 18.18% moved from 13.21% in the previous quarter. While EBITDA margins grew, margins were affected due to the following attributable factors:
    • Adverse forex impact of Rs.28 million;
    • Increase in R&D expenditure over income due to accelerated clinical and regulatory strategy;
    • US operations slowed down due to plant upgrades resulting in loss of Rs.45 million.
  • On a positive note the Mexican operations turned around smartly in the quarter consequent to launch of its first generic approval for Pravastatin – a cholesterol lowering drug.

Outlook
Commenting on the results, Arun Kumar, Vice Chairman and Group CEO of Strides Arcolab, said “the financial performance for Q3 FY06 shows a significant upswing in our core businesses while challenges identified in the earlier guidance are being addressed. The capacity constraints have since been addressed and the company has geared up significantly to meet increasing demand from its Oral Dosage Form facilities.

Corporate Developments

  • Board approves acquisition of 33% residual interest in Strides Latina
    The Board has approved a recommendation to acquire 33% residual interest in Strides Latina
    from its local partners at US$ 66.67 million. • We strongly believe that the proposal to acquire the residual interest in our Latin American operations (while partners continuing to play a significant role in its day to day operations), will enable Strides to increase its business in a very significant market where it is already India’s largest pharmaceutical company.
  • Strides completed the acquisition of Drug House of Australia (Asia) Private Limited, Singapore [DHA]
  • ANDA Approvals
    The company received two ANDA approvals for Stavudine and Nevirapine under the expedited

Strides Arcolab registers 28% increase in revenue in Q2 FY06

Revenues at Rs.1682 million; EBITDA at Rs.222 million; PAT at Rs.55 million Bangalore, India, July 26, 2006: Strides Arcolab Limited [NSE: STAR, BSE: 532531] today announced its unaudited financial results for the second quarter ended 30 June 2006. Key Revenue Highlights Consolidated sales increased to Rs.1682 million; 28% over corresponding year Q2FY05 at Rs.1311 million. This is despite significant lower sales from the Indian operations due to severe capacity constraints in its Oral Dosage Form facility and Sterile plant upgrades to meet upcoming regulatory compliances.

EBITDA margins at 13.21% were significantly lower by 10% from Q1FY06 [23.36%]. This is attributable to: the adverse forex impact of Rs.51 million increase in R&D expenditure due to accelerated regulatory filing strategy significant up-swing of business in its low margin TB and AIDS division which were contractual in nature and capacity constraints resulted in supply chain issues in delivering more profitable orders during the quarter.

capacity issues also led to sales being affected to our subsidiaries due to supply constraints from India
Mexico continues to face challenges and reports a loss of Rs.35 million.Strides Inc although reporting stronger growth, is a few quarters away from breakeven. Outlook Commenting on the results, Arun Kumar, Vice Chairman and Group CEO of Strides Arcolab, said our financial performance for Q2FY06 although generated significant revenue growth, has thrown up a few challenges. “The year ahead will be more challenging due to the fact that capacity issues in Oral Dosage Form facility in India will only be fixed by end of Q4 to meet its increasing demand especially in its AIDS, TB and Malaria businesses. New product approvals expected by H107 in Mexico will enable the operations to bring profits by 2007.”

Guidance Consequent to the adverse impact as stated above, the guidance issued by the company will stand altered as under: “The Management is confident to achieve a modest growth in EPS while revenue guidance of growth by 35% remains un-altered”.
